Entertaiment is a multi-billion industry encompassing publishing, music, film and games that provides enjoyment and stimulates learning. It can also have negative effects on society when not properly regulated.
The word entertain comes from the Medieval Latin inter tenere, meaning “to hold inside.” The Indo-European root is ten, which means to stretch. It’s interesting to note that a significant amount of money in the entertainment industry is spent on research into diseases such as cancer, which stretches the human body and mind.
