The clown at a birthday party, the Broadway show, or your friends fighting over the last potato chip – all of these things are forms of entertainment. We think of theatrical entertainment as shows, visual as the stuff you like to look at, and audio as mostly music. The word entertainment derives from the Latin inter tenere, meaning “inside hold.” It was associated with hospitality and meant to keep guests happy and amused.
